After the limelight, the truth sinks in

After having basked in the luxury of this blog being quoted in several European quality newspapers, most notably London's Financial Times (paid access) and Madrid's El Pais, a sobering note about old vs. new media.

Careful analysis leads me to say that being quoted in these major newspapers, with a combined circulation of more than 1 million, has brought this blog around 5 additional hits (add plus or minus 5 for the error margin). That's not counting emails, phone calls and other messages received from friends and acquaintances who were surprised to see my name appear in their favourite rag.

I think we can draw two firm conclusions here. One, rumours about old media's death are greatly exaggerated. Blogs being all the hype, there's still no blog that can measure up against reach and awareness of classic newspaper titles.

And two, there's apparently very little overlap between the two types of media. New is new and old is old, and ne'er the twain shall meet.
