Next one up: virtual apartment solely consisting of intelligent front door

By virtue of its location and position in Asia, Singapore is an ideal place for urban nomads. The Pier, a new apartment building, even targets this very group, judging by an advertised standard feature on the entrance security system. It automatically captures a picture of whoever rings your door bell and forwards it either by MMS or by email to your phone or laptop.

Interesting possibility for new visitors: why not hold up your name card with QR code in front of the door camera, so that the home owner's phone automatially captures your contact details?

Old friends won't need that, of course. At least, not if the home owner has registered with Riya.com, which offers a face recognition service for those whose photo is already in your database.

Pieds a terre will never be the same again...
